You do not need to deregister for courses. For exams, you need to deregister if you do not want to take them. Be aware of the deadlines (usually 3 working days before the exam). After failing an exam, you are obliged to complete the course.

Yes, an application to Examination Board is required to determine which courses count for the 8 CP.

Applicants FAQ
The score is not relevant. Academic admission requirements include a first university degree that proves the necessary engineering background education as outlined in the exam regulations.
Please note that “Railway Systems Engineering” is a specialization which can be chosen in the Master’s program “Verkehrsingenieurwesen und Mobilität” (in English “Transport Engineering and Mobility”). To study this specialization, you will first have to apply for the Master’s program “Verkehrsingenieurwesen und Mobilität”.
You can download the supplementary sheet during the application process on RWTHonline. With this sheet you indicate which specialization you are applying for (in your case: Railway Systems Engineering). You have to fill the relevant fields in the supplementary sheet and upload it back again.
An admission is only valid for one semester. In the next semester, a renewed application is required.
